Nana Saheb, The Adopted Son Of Peshwa Baji Raoii , Pleaded That He Had To Give His Father's Pension When The Latter Died. But The British Did Not Accept Any One Of The Plea.

 

Iii. Subsidiary Alliance Was The Policy Introduced By The British Governor General Lord Dalhousie To Annex The Indian Territories. In 1801a Subsidiary Alliance Was Imposed On Awadh & In 1856 Awadh Was Taken Over.

After The Revolt The Company Decided To Repress The Revolt, Bahadur Shah Was Tried In Court And Sentenced To Life Imprisonment. His Sons Were Shot Dead Before His Eyes He And His Wife Begum Zinat Mahal Were Sent To Prison In Rangoon And He Died There Itself.

• Those Who Had Rebelled Were Told That If They Submitted To The British And If They Would Remain Safe And Their Rights And Claims To Land Would Not Be Denied. Never These Hundreds Of Sepoys, Rebels, Nawabs And Rajas Were Tried And Hanged.

They Could Pass On Their Kingdom To Their Heirs; Including The Adopted Sons. However, They Were To Atcept The Suzerainty Of The British Crown. A Decision Was Taken To Increase The Proportion Of Europeans In The Army. More People Were To Be Recruited From Among The Gurkhas, Sikhs And Pathans. It Was Decided To Respect The Local Customs And Traditions.
