Q. 1. Where is the Bactrian camel found ?



Ans. It is basically a native of Mongolia. It is also found in remote areas of the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in Mongolia and China.

Q. 2. What is the most noticeable feature of the Bactrian camel ? How does it help the camel ?

Ans. The most noticeable feature of the Bactrian camel is its two humps. The two humps contain a huge amount of fat. This is used when food is scarce. This feature gives the camel the ability to live for many days without food.

Q. 3. How does the Bactrian camel adapt itself to different environment?



Ans. The Bactrian camel is best prepared for the extremes of the desert. It can face all the odds. It can travel long distances. Its feet do not sink into sand.


Q. 4. Is the camel calf happy with Moosa Ali? If yes, why do you think so ?



Ans. The camel calf is very happy with Moosa Ali. The camel calf was seen clinging to Moosa Ali. Obviously the relationship between the two is very good.


Q. 5. What are the factors responsible for increase in the population of the Bactrian camel in Nubra?



Ans. The man-animal relationship in Nubra valley is responsible for increase in the population of the Bactrian camel

Q. 1. Sum up your ideas of a healthy ecosystem in a small paragraph.

Ans. All the living things in an area and the way they affect each other and the environment are the ecosystem of a place. A healthy ecosystem is necessary for healthy living. We must have a lot of greenery around us. It should be free from the pollution of noise, smoke and industrial effluents. We must get fresh and pure air and drinking water should be clean and potable. This type of healthy ecosystem promotes healthy living.

Q. 2. How is your ecosystem disturbed ? Mention at least four causes.

Ans. Ecosystem is disturbed when there is  deforestation around us. It is disturbed when man begins to encroach upon the habitats of animals. Ecosystem is disturbed when there is a lot of litter around us. It is also disturbed when industrial effluents start going into the natural water bodies.

Q. 3. Write an e-mail informing your friend about the flora and fauna of your place.

Ans. Flora and Fauna are the plants and animals of a particular place. Kashmir, Ladakh and Jammu Students of the three regions of J and K........have to be personally acquainted with the plants and animals of their regions. With the help of their class teachers, they can write down the names of plants and animals and then write them down in the e-mail form to a friend. The question is for self-study.

GRAMMAR WORK

1. Study this sentence:

It is the valley of Kashmir that contains glorious mountains, gardens,sacred places and the world's famous lakes.

This sentence has two parts: (a) 'It is the valley of Kashmir', and (b) "Kashmir' has glorious mountains, gardens, sacred places and the world's famous lakes.' But, in the second part instead of 'Kashmir' we have used 'that' which refers to Kashmir. When words like 'that', 'who', and 'which' (in fact, most of the wh-words) refer to a noun that has been mentioned before, it is called relative pronoun. In the following sentences, the underlined words are all relative pronouns and the clause that begins with a relative pronoun is called relative clause:

i Ahmed is the boy who lives next door.

ii This is the house which/ that Mohan lives in.

iii. Is that the boy whose brother is a singer ?

Sometimes a relative pronoun can be omitted also:

I. This is the photo I like the best. (Or that/ which I like the best.)
