"The Bangle sellers"

ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS

Q:1.Who is the speaker in the poem?

Ans:- A group of bangle sellers are on  the way to a fair to sell their bangles and one of them  is the speaker of the poem. 


Q:2.How are the bangles described in the first stanza of the poem and who are these bangles for ?

Ans:-in the first stanza of the poem the bangles are described as delicate and bright. These bangles look like rainbow tinted circles of light ,The bangles are for happy daughters and happy wives. the daughters looking Forward for the marital bless and the wives contented in their marital bless . 


03. The poet uses different smiles for the bangles. What are these?

Ans: The poem has a huge dose of similes , which give depth to the meaning of the poem and make it a pictorial delight. The similes used are as ;

Rainbow tinted circle of light; mountain mist ; buds that dream;, fields of sunlit corn; flame of fire; bridal laughter and bridal tears. 


Q4. Name the different colours of bangles mentioned in the poem? What do these colours represent?

Ans: The different colours used to describe the bangles are silver, blue, purple, golden and rainbow tinted. The poet makes a strong connection between the bangles and their colours that covertly represents the different Stages in the life of  a woman.


Q5. The word "some" has been repeated in the poem for a purpose. What is it?

Ans: The word "some" has been used for different bangles that are of different colours. The poet describes the different colours of bangles used by different women according to their age.


Q6. Explain the following lines:
"Some are meet for a maiden's wrist Silver and blue as the mountain mist"

Ans: In these lines, the poet talks about the variety, design, size and colour of bangles that the bangle sellers have for sale. Some of these bangles are for virgins. They are of proper size for their wrists. Some of the bangles are of silver and blue in colour like the mountain mist.


LANGUAGE WORK

I. Read the poem once again and fill in the blanks as in the poem:

Bangle seller, sunlit corn, flecked grey, rainbow-tinted


Ans:- 

1 . Bangles are said to be as rainbow-tinted circles of light.


2. Some are like fields of sunlit corn.


3. Some bangles are purple and gold flecked grey.


4. People buy these bangles from a bangle-seller.


II. The poet has used several expressions that form pictures in the reader’s mind i.e., “fields of sunlit corn” and “circles of light”. Pick out more such expressions from the poem.


Ans. Some more expressions are:

i. the maiden’s wrist.

ii. the mist of mountain.

iii. the flame of her marriage fire.

iv. bridal laughter and bridal tear.
